I also enjoyed the gravestone pics. The markers are so small compared to the stature of these literary giants. Happy Halloween to you!

I agree! I think the markers speak volumes about their humble beginnings and perhaps their perspective about themselves.

I am in Guatemala right now and the day of the dead decorations are all over the place, even though it's more than a week away. I am loving it!

I love that! I remember the church - Catholic, yellow, looks a wedding-cake - possibly St. James? (In Antiga). Anyway, they decorated abundantly for Easter, including sand paintings depicting the stations of the cross. I would love to attend at Dia de los muertos parade though.

I wish we were here that long!! The big cathedral is San Jose, but the one that's yellow and looks like a wedding cake and has the convent attached is called Iglesia de la Merced.

Dia de los Muertos is such a positive, meaningful celebration! It's a popular observance here in Southern California.

I suppose so, since there are is so much Latino heritage there. I love that it continues to be part of our American culture, too.

Thanks for the interesting history in this spooky month. I enjoyed the gravesite photos of some of my favorite American writers.

Thanks, Sherrill. I like cemeteries, maybe it's a way of connecting to those who influenced me or just as proof of life. Of course, they left behind their words, which continue to be sources of discussion. But, how could they know that?

I went to Poe Fest in Baltimore a few weeks ago and wondered if Edgar Allan Poe ever conceived of the idea that 200 years later, we would still be celebrating him and his works, touring his house, and visiting his gravesite. I like to think that all artists know their artistic legacies will probably live on. But for how long and to what extent? It's very intriguing to me!

I enjoyed reading this piece about the diversity around Halloween. I've been fortunate to join in all these aspects of celebrations over the years which feels good for the heart and soul

to recognize both life and death and the diversity of life on this amazing planet. I love the name of sleepy hollow for a cemetery. Now where did I leave my elk mask?
